Coronavirus infections declined in Syria’s Tel Tamr in two past days

TEL-TAMR, Syria (North Press) – The number of coronavirus infections in the town of Tel Tamr, northeast Syria, decreased with the implementation of the complete lockdown over the past two days, a health official of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said on Thursday.

This comes on the third day of the complete lockdown, and a week after the partial curfew implemented in the town of Tel Tamr.

“Since the beginning of April, the town of Tel Tamr has been recording about ten cases of coronavirus infections daily,” Nisreen Hetto, an official of the Health Committee in Tel Tamr, told North Press.

“After the complete lockdown, the number of the infections have decreased to only one or two cases per day,” Hetto added.

Since the beginning of April, Tel Tamr has recorded four deaths and more than 100 confirmed infections, according to the Health Directorate in the town.

She indicated that all the medical teams are on a state of complete alert to limit the spread of the virus, despite the obstacles they face due to the lack of medical equipment. 

She pointed out that they have assigned an private team to take swabs for suspected cases coming to the Martyr Legarin Hospital in the town, in addition to conducting tours to take swabs for those who have similar symptoms.

AANES-held areas have been recently witnessing increase in the number of coronavirus infections, as the number of people infected has risen to 13,203 cases, including 442 deaths and 1,407 recoveries.

On April 12, the Health Board issued an urgent appeal to all international organizations, primarily the WHO, to immediately intervene and prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in northeast Syria.
