Syrian government raises dollar exchange rate for returnees to Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, the Syrian government raised the dollar exchange rate for expatriates returning to Syria from the diaspora countries to 2,500 instead of 1,250 SYP, according to what was published by the semi-official al-Watan newspaper.

This decision comes a day after the dismissal of the governor of the Central Bank of Syria, Hazem Karfoul, and the start of remittance companies to deliver foreign remittances to the population according to the exchange rate of 3,175 SYP.

Also, it comes a week after Chamber of Commerce of Damascus and Rif Dimashq announced that the exchange companies would begin handing over dollars to the traders at the exchange rate of 3,375 SYP in order to finance imports and focus on importing food and medicine.

On July 9, 2020, the Syrian government decided to oblige the returnees to exchange $100 when entering Syria, according to the exchange rate of the Central Bank.
