Violations on day one of complete lockdown in Syria’s Tel Tamr

TEL TAMR, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, the town of Tel Tamr, north of Hasakah, witnessed violations and normal movement of human traffic on the first day of the complete lockdown announced by the Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria (AANES) in order to limit the spreading of coronavirus, despite the remarkable increase in numbers of those wearing masks.

The first day of the lockdown coincided with the first day of the month of Ramadan, as meat, vegetable, and food stores witnessed a turnout in the town.

The markets also witnessed a remarkable movement of pedestrians, as the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) conducted intensive patrols within the markets and neighborhoods.

Meanwhile, the Supply Division organized visits to shops and stalls to assure their compliance with the price bulletins issued by the Economic Board, in light of the dissatisfaction of many residents with the high prices of basic materials.

On Monday, the AANES excluded hospitals, pharmacies, humanitarian organizations, bakeries, and stores selling vegetables, meat, and food from the decision of the complete lockdown.

This morning, North Press published video footage in cities and towns in northeastern Syria showing pedestrians moving in the streets despite the closure of most shops.

According to the latest statistics announced by the AANES’s Health Board, the number of infections reached 12,437 confirmed cases, of which 428 deaths and 1,378 recoveries in northeastern Syria.

On Monday, during a press conference by the Health Board, the AANES called on the World Health Organization to intervene immediately, to prevent a “humanitarian catastrophe” due to coronavirus.
