Social justice councils in northeastern Syria suspend work during lockdown

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The co-presidency of the Social Justice Council in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) announced on Monday the suspension of all councils, the Defense Court, and the Mesopotamia Academy for ten days, starting tomorrow, Tuesday.

The decision of the Social Justice Council includes the postponement of all official meetings within the social justice centers, provided that they are permanently held by the system of shifts during the aforementioned period.

This came during a decision by the Social Justice Council based on the Executive Council’s decision in northeastern Syria to impose a complete lockdown on the region.

On Sunday, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) imposed complete lockdown in all of the areas it controls in northeast Syria to ward off the danger posed by coronavirus.

According to the decision issued by the AANES, the lockdown will take effect on Tuesday, April 13 until Thursday, April 22 in all the AANES-held areas.

The decision also includes the postponement of all sessions in the offices of justice, with the exception of criminal cases.

The social justice bureau bodies operate in a shift system with at least two judges, according to the decision.
