Extending lockdown in AANES areas is possible: Crisis Management Team
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – “It is possible to extend the lockdown in the areas of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in light of the increasing numbers of coronavirus infections,” said Afram Ishaq, member of Crisis Management Team in Jazira region,on Saturday.
”The Crisis Management Team will decide whether to extend the lockdown or left it after the meeting that is scheduled to be held tomorrow, a day before the end of the determined deadline of the lockdown in AANES areas,” Ishaq told North Press.
He pointed out that the partial curfew will continue until the decrease of the infections, in addition to tightening the measures and the complete lockdown in the regions with increasing number of infections.
On April 9, the Kurdish Red Crescent, which is working in AANES areas, said that the number of COVID-19 infections has increased by seven during the last month.
The number of critical cases has not decreased in the hospitals of Raqqa, Hasakah and Qamishli, despite the imposition of a complete lockdown, according to the Kurdish Red Crescent.
On April 6, the AANES imposed a complete lockdown on Hasakah, Qamishli and Raqqa for a week, which ends on April 12, accompanied by another partial curfew on the rest of the cities.
Meanwhile, the AANES’ Health Board announced the imposition of a complete lockdown on the Euphrates regions, which started from Friday, April 9.
On April 9, the number of new coronavirus infections in northeastern Syria has reached 236, bringing the total number to 11,769 confirmed cases, including 415 deaths and 1,354 recoveries.
