Pel Organisation holds seminar on displaced in Syria’s Raqqa

RAQQA, Syria (North Press)-On Sunday, the Pel organization (a civil society organization operating in the regions of northeast of Syria) held a seminar to discuss the situation of the displaced in Raqqa.

The seminar, which was held under the slogan “Our country is one,” was attended by activists working in the field of civil society and displaced people from several Syrian regions.

Raqqa is considered one of the most hostile cities for displaced people from various Syrian regions, after a decade of war in Syria.

Displaced people living in camps talked about life difficulties they face after displacement.

The seminar discussed how the institutions of the Raqqa Civil Council and NGOs working in the area deal with the displaced.

The session dealt with the services provided to the displaced, and whether they ensure a decent life for them, in light of the difficult economic conditions.

The participants proposed a set of solutions and proposals aimed at alleviating the suffering of the displaced and pushing them towards integration into the local community and in the labor market.

Muhammad Rajab, a coordinator at Pel, told North Press that the aim for holding this seminar was to discuss the demands and needs of the displaced.

He pointed out that the aim of this seminar was to “draw the attention of the administrative institutions and the humanitarian and relief organizations in Raqqa, after the great increase in their number, which almost equals the number of the indigenous population of Raqqa.”

There is no real statistic about the number of displaced people living in Raqqa today.

Rajab pointed to “the need to change the negative perception of some residents towards the displaced and to narrow the social rift between the two parties.”

The organization will continue to hold similar seminars until the highest degree of social cohesion is reached,” according to the coordinator.
