Syria’s AANES to create plans for sustainable development
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – We are working on a set of statistics to create plans for sustainable development, solve housing problems, secure health housing, and achieve food security in northeast Syria, co-chair of Planning, Development and Statistics Office of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), Muhammad al-Ahmad, said on Thursday.
“The goal of the statistics is to formulate recommendations and proposals for the Supreme Council for Planning to adopt service, development and constructional projects,” al-Ahmad told North Press.
“We will carry out a comprehensive census to identify the true number of residents of northeast Syria and their geographical distribution, to assess the health and educational situation, improve the planning process and develop solutions to problems related to the health, education and urban sectors,” al-Ahmad added.
He pointed out that the economy of the area primarily depends on agriculture, so they pay more attention to this sector by starting with a comprehensive statistics of all agricultural crops, fruitful and forestry trees, rain-fed and irrigated agricultural lands, as well as livestock.
“We have approved comprehensive statistical tables for the destroyed schools that have become out of service as a result of the devastating war erupted in some areas in northeast Syria,” the official noted.
Some departments have conducted specific statistics within their administrative boundaries, but most of them have not conducted an accurate and reliable statistics due to the lack of offices for planning and statistics, according to al-Ahmad.
Years of war in Syria have produced many social and living crises, the difficulty of securing housing, and a shortage of foodstuffs, which negatively affected the AANES areas.
