Government soldiers killed in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, two Syrian government soldiers were killed by unknown attackers in the city center of Daraa, south Syria.

A local source told North Press that the government soldiers, who are members of the government Air Force Intelligence branch, came under fire from unknown attackers in the city center of Dael in the Daraa countryside killing them immediately.

The incident took place near a military checkpoint of the branch on the entrance of the city of Dael, the source added.

The source stated that the armed attackers escaped on two bikes, heading towards an unidentified destination.

Following the attack, members of the Air Force Intelligence, supported by vehicles of the 4th Armored Division, combed the vicinity of the city, a member of the local central committees in Daraa who preferred to stay unnamed for security reasons told North Press.

People of the Daraa countryside are angry due to the intensive security and military deployment by the government forces and the humiliating searches of travelers to and from Dael.

On March 16, a bus belonging to the Fourth Division of the Syrian government forces was ambushed on al-Yadouda-al-Muzairib road in Daraa by an unidentified local armed group, killing and injuring a number of the government forces.

The city of Dael, in the center of Daraa, is considered a stronghold for local anti-government groups, for which settlements were made in 2018 under Russian supervision and sponsorship, according to the source.
