Syria’s Autonomous Administration denies meetings with Syrian government
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, two prominent officials of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) denied any holding meetings or understandings with the Syrian government accusing the latter of “obstructing all dialogues.”
Russian media outlets and others quoted unnamed Russian sources have reported that AANES and Syrian government had reached “primary understandings” concerning the future of northeast Syria.
“Negotiation between leading security and government figures and a delegation of the AANES, including military figures and others responsible for the oil issue, took place in Damascus over the past few days,” the sources added.
The media outlets reported what they called understandings about raising the Syrian flag over the regions of northeast Syria, delivering wheat and oil to the government-held areas in exchange for recognizing the privacy of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) within the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and granting the AANES authorities within the Syrian Local Administration Law.
One of the AANES officials considered publishing such news as “attempts by the Syrian regime to gain the trust of the public before the presidential elections next April.”
Both officials, who preferred not to be identified, mentioned that the AANES was always ready for dialogues with the Syrian government, but the latter obstructs it and doesn’t believe in it.
The past years have witnessed several meetings between the AANES and the Syrian government, but they have not yielded any results so far.
At the end of 2019, Syrian and Russian forces were deployed in northeast Syria after military understandings with the SDF, following a military operation launched by Turkish army and the armed opposition groups in both Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad.
