Government forces target opposition in Syria’s Hama countryside
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government forces renewed their shelling on Syrian opposition posts in the western Hama countryside on Tuesday, as part of the ongoing mutual shelling between the two parties that has been taking place since January.
The de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is witnessing military escalation between the government forces and opposition groups, amid residents’ fears of a potential military operation there.
Despite the Russian-Turkish agreement to halt all military operations in the de-escalation zone, the area is still witnessing increasing escalation.
Government soldiers targeted the opposition fortifications in the villages of Qarqor and Ziyara in Ghab Plain, west Hama, with artillery shells and missiles at dawn on Monday, a field source told North Press.
The source added that the government soldiers shelled Jurin camp and the village of Sirmaniyah, west Hama, with rocket launchers, reporting no human casualties.
The government shelling caused destruction to both public and private property in the targeted area, amid intensive flight of reconnaissance and fighter aircraft, according to the source.
On Monday, Syrian government soldiers shelled opposition posts in the villages and towns of Kansafra, Kafr Aweed, and Fatira in the de-escalation zone.
