Children Protection Office hands over minors to parents in Syria’s Hasakah

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, the Child Protection Office in Armed Conflicts in northeast Syria’s Hasakah handed over a minor to his parents after he joined the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

“Today we handed over a minor to his parents and he was removed from the military forces,” Child Protection Office co-chair Khalid Jaber said in a statement to North Press.

The AANES Executive Council established the Child Protection Office late in August. This step came after an agreement signed by SDF Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi with the United Nations to prevent the recruitment of children and their use as combatants in armed conflict.

“From 2020 to 2021, 25 minors were handed over to their parents according to the agreement signed with the United Nations,” Jaber added.

He stressed, “Coordination between the Office and SDF over removing minors form military forces and handing them over to their parents is continuing.”

On February 3, the Children Protection Office in Armed Conflicts in Hasakah handed over a minor to his parents after he was removed from the military forces.
