Syrian opposition member resigns from Constitutional Committee
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – General Awad al-Ali, member of the Syrian Constitutional Committee (small body) for the opposition delegation announced his resignation on Syria TV channel.
Al-Ali described the meetings of the Constitutional Committee as “useless.”
Edward Hashwah, member of Constitutional Committee (large body), had called for a meeting to dismiss the small body of the Committee.
He indicated that the head of the Syrian government delegation said, “we are here for discussions and debates, not to form a constitution.”
He noted that participating in the committee’s works gives an impression that there is a political strategy, and that the Syrian government is cooperative, but the fact is completely the opposite.
Yesterday, the UN Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, stated that the talks of the fifth round of the Syrian Constitutional Committee works was “disappointing.”
