ISIS kills disabled man in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, the Islamic State (ISIS) claimed the killing of a disabled man in the town of Ghariba al-Sharqiya in the western countryside of Syria’s Deir ez-Zor.

A local source from the town of Kasrat in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor told North Press that two people riding on a motorcycle stormed the house of Hafez Ismail al-Daham and shot him to death.

According to the source the shooting also wounded al-Daham’s father.

The ISIS-linked Amaq agency published a statement on Sunday that claimed the killing of Hafez, under the pretext that he was a member of the formerly US-sponsored military group of tribal sheikhs known as al-Sahowat (Apostate Awakening Council).

Al-Daham had no military links as he was a person with special needs, according to the source.

The eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor has recently witnessed assassinations targeting employees of the Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria (AANES), members of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), sheikhs, and tribal leaders.

The SDF, in cooperation with the US-led Global Coalition, were able to arrest dozens of leaders and cells of ISIS during the last period as part of a joint operation to pursue ISIS members.
