Pro-Syrian government group shells Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – A pro-Syrian government group shelled the city of Daraa on Thursday at dawn in response to an assassination attempt on one of their members.
Conflicts broke out between local groups in the south, especially after an assassination attempt took place on Sunday against Mustafa al-Masalmah (also known as al-Kassem), who was one of the most important personnel of Military Intelligence in Daraa governorate.
A group affiliated with Mustafa al-Masalmah’s group targeted the city of Daraa Balad with mortar shells, recording neither casualties nor material loses, a local source which preferred to remain unnamed told North Press.
Meanwhile, government forces intensified their military reinforcements, including soldiers and armored vehicles in the towns and villages of the western countryside of Daraa on Wednesday.
The government forces reinforced their presence in the Zizoun camp, in the western countryside of Daraa, in the town of Zizoun, where the 4th Armoured Division is stationed.
The camp was established two years ago and witnessed unprecedented activity as sources estimated that it contained about 250 members of those who were members of formations of the 4th Armoured Division and its brigades in the southern countryside of Damascus.
On Wednesday, the town of al-Yadudah in the western countryside of Daraa was surprised by the establishment of a checkpoint belonging to 4th Armoured Division at its western entrance to inspect passers-by and checked their identity cards in search of wanted persons.
Inspection turned into storming houses in villages of the western countryside of the governorate, searching for people in order to accuse them of assassinations against government military members, according to local sources.
