Turkey closes Bab al-Hawa border crossing in Syria’s Idlib for three days
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, the administration of Bab al-Hawa border crossing, 33 kilometers north of Syria’s Idlib, announced that the closing would be closed for three days a result of preventative measures imposed by the Turkish side of the crossing.
The crossing administration also stated that they would stop passenger traffic to and from Turkey on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in conjunction with the total coronavirus lockdown in Turkey.
On their social media accounts, the crossing’s administration stated that “Bab al-Hawa crossing will be closed to passenger traffic from Friday until Sunday,” but added that “the traffic of commercial and relief shipments will continue to operate as usual.
Bab al-Hawa crossing is the only commercial artery in northwest Syria, and the crossing through which all UN relief convoys enter the region.
The crossing administration has continuously received humanitarian appeals to remain open, but the Turkish side of the border does not allow travel, even of a humanitarian nature, across the border.
