QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Ali Hassan, the spokesman for the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) in North and East Syria, said that they have assigned more than 20,000 members and intensified their patrols to maintain security during the New Year’s Eve.
The cities and towns of northeastern Syria have witnessed heavy patrolling and the closure of some roads in order to maintain security during the New Year’s celebrations.
“We prevented motorbikes and large and small trucks from entering cities,” Hassan said.
On Friday, the Asayish issued a set of instructions regarding Christmas and New Year’s celebrations, which prohibited the use of motorcycles and the firing of weapons under penalty of legal prosecution.
On Thursday, the spokesman for the Internal Security Forces called on the residents of northeast Syria to adhere to the decisions of the security authorities.
Kana’n Barakat, co-chair of the Interior Authority in Jazira region, told North Press that the Internal Security Forces are working to ensure security and peace for the residents of the region during the New Year’s celebrations.
Barakat warned against the use of weapons or firing of ammunition during New Year’s celebrations, because this may expose violators to legal accountability according to the Weapons Licensing Law issued by the Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria.
