Over 1,000 coronavirus infections, speech of another total lockdown in Syria’s Derik

DERIK, Syria (North Press) – A medical administrator in Qamishli Region said on Thursday that the number of the coronavirus infections in the city of Derik, north east Syria, exceeded 1,000 infected cases, pointing out to the possibility of imposing another total lockdown in case the situation worsened.

Rojin Ahmad, the spokeswoman of the Health Committee in Qamishli Region, told North Press that the toll of infections reached about 1117 in Derik.

“About 864 infections were subjected to home quarantine including 44 medical staffs, and so far, the toll has reached to 29 deaths and 129 recoveries,” Ahmad said.

Crisis Cell in Jazira Region imposed on November 6 a two-week total lockdown on the city of Derik and its countryside due to the increasing number of infections.

Currently, the Crisis Cell is imposing a partial lockdown on Derik accompanied by the implementation of the preventative measures.

“The partial lockdown contributes to the decline of infections while swabs decreased compared to previous periods,” Rojin said.

She pointed out to the possibility of imposing another total lockdown in cease the situation worsened.
