Displaced call on local groups for protection against government attacks in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Tribes of displaced people from the Lajat area called on the Eighth Brigade of the Fifth Corps, which was stationed in the city of Busra al-Sham in the southeast Daraa countryside, to protect clans from government forces’ attacks.

Syrian government forces sent more military reinforcements to the city of Daraa, in Syria’s south, in the light of the increasing retaliatory operations. Government forces clamped down on those clans to force them to flee again to west Daraa countryside, a local source told North Press.

“Fourth Brigade soldiers, which were affiliated with the government army, accused those displaced clans of sheltering anti-government militants from Daraa’s local groups inside their tents,” the source added.

A convoy consisting of technical of the Eighth Brigade headed on Tuesday towards the town of eastern Maliha and al-Musayfirah in order to protect people of the Lajat clan, according to the source.

Daraa countryside has been witnessing a flare up in tensions since the beginning of November, as government forces stormed the town of eastern Karak, besieged Daraa al-Balad, and arrested the people.

Militants of the Fourth Brigade stormed a camp in the eastern Horan plain, uprooted the tents, and stole their items under the pretext of that the displaced people supported the local groups, a local source told North Press early November.

The clans that have fled from the Lajat area since 2012 are spread over 52 points scattered along the eastern Horan plains.

They fled to the area due to shelling and destruction in their areas by government forces supported by Iranian-backed groups, according to the source.
