IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Sources in Idlib governorate, northwestern Syria, said on Wednesday, that Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) is preparing to issue a death sentence for a Syrian journalist detained two months ago.
In recent days, there were reports about the fate of Nour al-Shilo, a media activist detained in an HTS prison on charges of being an informant and working for the benefit of other parties.
Most of Idlib is held by HTS, in addition to other armed groups fighting among their ranks.
An informed source told North Press that HTS intends to issue a death sentence against al-Shilo after an detaining him for over two months, without explaining the reasons for the arrest to the press and public opinion.
The source stated that HTS summoned al-Shilo due to problems with the family of her deceased husband regarding custody of her children. She was then arrested, and no information has been given about her whereabouts.
Activists have reported during the past few days about HTS’ intention to implement the death sentence for the Syrian activist next Friday, after accusing her of carrying out espionage for the Syrian government.
Al-Shilo, a widow and a mother of three, was working as a media activist for several local media outlets and civil society organizations to empower women.
