Mutual shelling in de-escalation zone northwestern Syria

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – The de-escalation zone in Idlib governorate, northwestern Syria, witnessed on Thursday, mutual shelling between the Syrian government forces and the Turkish-backed armed opposition groups.

A field source told North Press that Syrian government forces targeted, with heavy artillery and rockets, the armed groups’ positions in the towns of al-Bara, Kansafra and Feteirah, in the Zawiya Mountain in the southern countryside of Idlib.

The sources said that the bombing coincided with flying Russian drones above the area and the countryside of Latakia and Hama governorates.

In Latakia, the Syrian government forces carried out artillery shelling on al-Kabina hills in Jabal al-Akrad region in the northern countryside of the governorate.

On the other hand, the armed opposition group of the al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room (jihadist group involved in Syrian war) targeted government forces’ positions in the village of Hantotin, near the city of Ma’arat al-Nu’man, south of Idlib, with heavy artillery shells.

The de-escalation zone is witnessing a military escalation and mutual shelling between government forces and Turkish-backed opposition groups, amid talks about an upcoming military operation in Idlib.

Idlib governorate and other areas surrounding it are subject to an agreement between Moscow and Ankara that provides for a complete cessation of hostilities between the Syrian government forces and Turkish-backed armed opposition groups.
