We launched security campaign against ISIS in Hasakah, SDF leader

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The leader of the pro-Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Shaddadi Military Council, Sayel al-Zoba’a said on Tuesday, their forces launched a security campaign in the southern countryside of Hasakah during the past days to pursue ISIS sleeper cells.

In an exclusive interview with North Press, al-Zoba’a added that the activities of ISIS sleeper cells increased in the Markada and Deshisha regions during the past days.

The security campaign targeted persons suspected of being in contacts with ISIS, and many cells were arrested without defining the number, according to al-Zoba’a.

“These sleeper cells target clans’ notables and militants of the region, aiming at spreading confusion,” he noted.

He pointed out that their forces are still pursuing ISIS sleeper cells in Hasakah countryside, impeding their moves and failing their plans.

Military sources told North Press that the arrested cell is responsible of assassinations in the areas surrounding Beseira that are carried out via motorcycles and IEDs.

On Monday, with support with the Global Coalition, the SDF arrested an ISIS sleeper cell near the town of Beseira in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

On November 7, masked gunmen attacked the People’s Assembly building in Basira, firing indiscriminately and fleeing after the intervention of the Deir ez-Zor Military Council.

On November 6, the SDF Special Forces arrested three members of an ISIS sleeper cell in the town of Baghouz in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
