Explosive device kills Syrian government troops in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Two Syrian government soldiers were killed on Sunday evening due to the explosion of a device planted on a military vehicle, on the outskirts of Mayadin city east of Deir ez-Zor, the Khabor local website stated.
An official in the military security branch was killed on Saturday and a child was lightly wounded in a bomb explosion in the countryside of Mayadin.
Hamid Mahmud Bedewi, an official in the military security branch, was killed when a grenade he was playing with exploded. The explosion killed him instantly, according to the local Medea River website. A child standing nearby, Muhammad Ezat Khelaif, was injured and transferred to Assad Hospital in the city of Deir ez-Zor.
Additionally, Russian patrols intensively deployed on Sunday on the outskirts of Tyim field in east Deir ez-Zor. The patrols included several armoured vehicles and four-wheel drive cars to secure the safety of Russian troops in the field.
Meanwhile, a road east of Deir ez-Zor witnessed expansion operations by the Abbas Legion, which is affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
The eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor has been witnessing competition between Russia and Iran and their affiliated groups for control over the area.
The western bank of the Euphrates is divided into two regions: the first under the control of the Syrian government forces and Russian-backed armed groups, and the second to the south of it in Mayadin and Deir ez-Zor, where Iranian-backed forces operate. Hezbollah groups are also deployed on the outskirts of the Deir ez-Zor military airport northeast of Mayadin.
