AZAZ, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State (ISIS) announced on Saturday its responsibility for the killing of civilian police officers affiliated with Syrian opposition groups in the Syrian city of Bab.
Three members of the engineering team of the civilian police group were killed on Saturday while trying to dismantle an explosive device on the outskirts of Bab.
Bab city, 30 kilometers from the southern Turkish border, has been under the control of the Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition groups since 2017.
According to ISIS’ announcement, which was posted on private Telegram channels, the officers were lured to the location of an explosive device prepared for remote detonation.
“After the renegades thought they had dismantled it, they took it with them, and Mujahideen detonated it on them, which led to the destruction of their vehicle and killed three members,” the ISIS statement read.
Earlier this month, ISIS claimed the killing of Hamdo Hamadi, a prominent official in the Sham Legion, and the wounding of his father by an explosive device in Bab.
On October 6, a car bomb targeted a civilian gathering in the center of the city, killing at least 17 civilians and injuring others.
The opposition-controlled areas in northwestern Syria are witnessing a state of security chaos, accompanied by frequent bombings, amid the inability of the military police and the groups in charge to control security.
