Armed group attacks administrative building in Deir ez-Zor countryside, Syria

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, masked gunmen attacked the People’s Assembly building in the town of Basira in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, firing indiscriminately and fleeing after the intervention of the Deir ez-Zor Military Council.

Local sources told North Press that the elements of the armed group fired indiscriminately inside the building, but that all employees and visitors to the building were able to escape.

She added that the armed group closed the People’s Assembly center for a short period of time before the Deir ez-Zor Military Council forces intervened and the group fled.

The military forces imposed a security cordon on the area, and launched a security investigation to find out the identity of the attackers.

On Friday, the SDF arrested three members of a cell affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) in the town of Baghouz in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor

According to military sources, individual weapons and ready-to-detonate explosive devices for use in military operations to destabilize northeastern Syria were confiscated.
