Symposium to develop Syriac, Chaldean, Assyrian languages held in Syria’s Qamishli

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Eridu Center for Civil Society and Democracy held a symposium for supporting and developing the Syriac, Chaldean, and Assyrian languages in the Chaldean Hall in Qamishli on Sunday

About 60 people took part in the symposium, including Syriac parties and institutions, linguistic committees, and those concerned with education from different areas in northeast Syria’s Jazira, in addition to independent individuals who were interested in the Syriac language and its development.

During the symposium, the problems and difficulties which have led to the Syriac language’s decline were also discussed, Ghandi Sa’ado, an official in the Eridu Center, said. Suggestions were also made as to how to revive the language across the country, according to Sa’ado.

“We discussed the challenges and difficulties that this language faced which led to its decline,” he added.

At the end, a committee was formed in order to follow the issues and ideas that were shared during the discussion.

This committee will supervise the implementation of these solutions and overcome difficulties until the second symposium to be held next year.

The symposium will last for two months, during which they will tackle the didactic language passages, individual meetings and online ones, in order to address about 150 people from the Jazira Region according to the terms of the symposium, he stated.
