Syrian Interim Government records highest rates of coronavirus in northwestern Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Interim Government of the Syrian Opposition Coalition announced on Tuesday evening the recording of the highest rate of deaths and infections with coronavirus in northwestern Syria so far.
The Syrian Interim Government stated on its official website that five deaths, 20 recoveries, and 107 new cases of coronavirus were recorded.
The Epidemiological Surveillance Laboratory of the Assistant Coordination Unit (ACU) in the opposition held-areas reported that it was proved that coronavirus was the reason of the death of five cases that were previously suspected.
In a previous statement to North Press, Maram al-Sheikh, Minister of Health in the Syrian Interim Government, predicted a sharp rise in cases in October.
38 new cases are in the Turkish-backed armed opposition groups held-areas and 69 in Idlib governorate, which is under the control of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
This brought the total number of infected cases to 1,927, including 20 deaths and 1,024 recoveries, according to the Syrian Interim Government data.
