SDF deploys in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor to stop tribal clashes

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Mounir Jum’a, a field commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said on Monday that 100 of their forces were deployed between two villages in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor to prevent renewed tribal fighting that resulted in casualties.

“A dispute between two families of the al-Baqara and al-Burashed tribes arose ten days ago and resulted in the killing of five people on both sides,” Jum’a told North Press.

He stated that their forces were deployed at a distance of about 1500 meters between the villages of al-Burashed and al-Qasiba in the al-Jazrat region in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

The confrontations between the two tribes are due to an old dispute over a piece of agricultural land.

The clashes between the two sides resulted in the injury of more than 8 others, including a seven-year-old child who was hit by a stray bullet while grazing sheep, according to local sources.

“We are in coordination with the sheikhs and elders of the tribes who are working on holding a reconciliation between the two sides,” Jum’a added.
