Opposition-held areas record spike in coronavirus cases in Syria’s northwest
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) –The Syrian Interim Government of the Syrian opposition coalition recorded 85 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, bringing the total to 1,379 in Syria’s northwest.
Maram Sheikh, the Minister of Health in the Syrian Interim Government, previously told North Press that he expected a sharp rise in cases in October.
Additionally, 53 infections were recorded in Turkish-backed opposition-held areas and 32 infections in Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS)-held areas, the Early Warning Alert and Response Network of the Support Coordination Unit stated.
While, 44 recoveries were recorded, including 32 in the northern Aleppo countryside and 12 in Idlib, bringing the number of recovered cases to 751.
Health authorities have not recorded any new deaths in the opposition-held areas until Tuesday, keeping the total at 14.
