Iranian-backed National Defense militia establishing points in Syria’s Suwayda

SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, the Iranian-backed Syrian government National Defense militia established three military posts west of the town of Qurryah, south of Suwayda.

On the 28th and 29th of last month, the areas to the west of the town of Qurryah witnessed clashes between the Eighth Brigade of the Russian-backed Fifth Corps, local independent factions in the Druze-majority region of Suwayda, and the Iranian-backed National Defense.

Dozens from both sides were killed and wounded.

Sources from inside the town of Qurryah told North Press that they were surprised this morning that there were three military points established a kilometer west of the town.

The three new points are one kilometer away from the sites of the Eighth Brigade of the Fifth Corps, according to the sources.

Local sources also stated that 50 personnel affiliated with National Defense are stationed in these points.

Russia had previously promised local parties in Suwayda (sheikhs of Akl and factions not loyal to the government) that they would withdraw the Eighth Brigade to the administrative borders within the Daraa governorate.
