Armenians in Syria’s Aleppo denounce Turkish support for war against Armenia

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – Armenian residents of Aleppo, northern Syria, denounced the attack on Armenian lands, and consider the recruitment of militants from Syria to fight in Azerbaijan another genocide against the Armenian people.

“By supporting Azerbaijan in the war against Armenia, Turkey has been trying to exterminate the Armenian people for decades in order to restore the Ottoman Empire in the region,” George Shahrayan, an Armenian from Aleppo, told North Press.

“When Turkey attacked in September 1920, the Armenians were not able to defend themselves. So, at that time, Turkey succeeded in committing massacres against them,” Shahrayan said.

“Today, we are ready to confront the Turkish aggression with all legitimate factors, and we will not let Turkey succeed in this fierce operation,” he added.

“The rapid Turkish intervention in the war with Azerbaijan against Armenia is evidence of Turkey’s defeat in the attack it has been launching within Syrian territory,” said Maria Babalalnin, an Armenian woman.

“Turkey’s use of armed individuals of Syrian nationality is an attempt to exterminate the Armenians with Syrian individuals in order to create sectarian strife in Syria,” she added.

Raffi Mankian, 33, denounced the international community’s lack of action in regards to the war and Turkey’s fueling of it, without interfering to stop it.

“The world did not move when Turkey committed genocide against our ancestors in 1915-1920, and did not try to bring Turkey to justice,” Mankian said.

“The same scenario is being repeated, and there is no international stance against the Turkish government,” he added.

A week ago, battles erupted between Armenia and Azerbaijan on the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh.

On September 28, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that time has come to end the crisis in the disputed region between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

On September 22, seven buses in addition to several vehicles belonging to the Turkish-backed Sultan Murad group set off from the village of Kafr Ghan in the northern countryside of the region of Soran to the Howar Killis crossing, east of the city of Azaz, northern Aleppo, local sources reported.
