Statistics reveal murder and escape attempts inside Syria’s Hawl camp

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – A statistic special to the security forces in Hawl camp, southern Hasakah, showed an increase in new methods of attempted murder within the camp during September.

During September, the camp recorded 11 attempted murders, most of which targeted displaced Iraqis inside the camp, as two of them were killed, according to the statistics seen by North Press.

On September 19, the security forces found the body of a man and a woman inside the camp who were killed with a silenced weapon, and most of the killings were carried out by stabbings with sharp tools.

The camp did not record any attempts in August, according to the same statistics.

A security source from inside the camp who requested not to be named for security reasons said that there are daily escape attempts from the camp, and that the attempts have been continuing at the same pace for months.

“Iraqi men and Russian women are most of those who try to escape,” according to the source.

On July 17, the official Turkish Anadolu Agency said, “Turkish intelligence rescued a Moldovan woman with her four children from Hawl camp, northern Syria.” An Autonomous Administration official accused Turkey of sponsoring all smuggling networks from inside the camp.

Although the security forces thwart the escape attempts from time to time, a number of the camp residents managed to escape, according to the statistics.

In July, North Press published documents and videos showing the smuggling of wives and children of ISIS fighters by drivers working for NGOs.

Hawl camp includes the largest number of women and children of ISIS families, whose number reaches 11,000, according to the camp administration.

The total number of its residents are more than 65,000, distributed over 13,000 tents, and among them are more than 40,000 children.
