Egypt calls on Arab states to deter Turkey

ISTANBUL, Turkey (North Press) – In a meeting of the Arab League Council held by the Foreign Ministers on Wednesday, the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shukri said that his country will not stand idly by the Turkish greed.

“Turkey seeks to undermine the stability and security not only in Libya but also in the region as a whole,” Shukri said in the online meeting, calling on the Arab states to unite and deter the Turkish regime.

“Turkey is authoritatively engaged in moving the mercenaries and terrorist members from Syria to Libya in an attempt to reproduce the same situation that produced as a result of its intervention in Syria,” he added.

Shukri stressed that Egypt will not stand idly by the Turkish greed in Syria, Iraq and Libya as it flouts the international charters and covenants seeking for a false hope in regaining a past that did not bring to the region but instability,”  he said.

Meanwhile, Wael Agha Oglu, a Turkish analyst based in Istanbul said, Egypt follows the policy of pressure on Turkey.

“Turkey has become today a strategic player and ally in the region, and allying with it, is in the interest of all. Egypt’s accusations will lead to the loss of Turkey as an ally,” Agha Oglu told North Press.

Shukri described the Turkish intervention as “an overt intervention and occupation”, stressing on the necessity of conducting a strict and unified Arabic policy to deter the Turkish military intervention.

In this regard, Monir Adib, an Egyptian researcher specialized in Islamic movements and extremist terrorist organizations told North Press that Shukri’s call against Turkey is “very important.”

“Erdogan wants to regain Libya and all the Arab countries that were under the control of the fleeting Ottoman Empire,” Adib said.

At the end of the meeting, the Arab League Council issued a statement in which they agreed on refusing the Turkish intervention in the Arabic affairs.

The statement stressed on the illegality of the Turkish military presence in the Arab countries and the necessity of the unconditionally withdrawing from them.
