Casualties in fight between Turkish-backed groups in Syria’s northeast

TEL TAMR, Syria (North Press) – Clashes broke out on Sunday between two Turkish-backed armed opposition groups in the countryside of the town of Tel Tamr north of Hasakah, leading to casualties on both sides.

The clashes took place between two opposition groups in the village of al-Faisaliyah northwest of Tel Tamr, local sources told North Press. 

The source added that vehicles carrying DShK weapons entered the village in the afternoon, after which clashes broke out with heavy weapons, without giving further details.

In the same context, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) quoted sources as saying that violent clashes with medium and light weapons broke out between militants of the Sultan Murad group and others of the al-Hamzat group in the villages of the western countryside of Tel Tamr. 

SOHR confirmed on the casualties on both sides, without knowing the causes of the fighting. 

On August 20, clashes between the Hasakah Shield group and the al-Hamza group broke out in the city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), killing three and injuring five on both sides. 

The city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) is witnessing repeated clashes between armed opposition groups which lead to deaths and injuries among civilians and material damage to property. 

In October, the Turkish military and its affiliated Syrian opposition groups launched a military operation and pushed the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) from the border towns of Serekaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad (Gre Spi) leading to the deaths of about 500 civilians and the displacement of about 300,000 people.
