SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – The House of the Druze Monotheistic Sect denounced Turkey’s cutting off of water from Syria’s Hasakah on Sunday, considering it an aggressive practice against all the country’s communities.
The spokesman for the Druze Information Office told North Press that Turkey, with its aggressive practice, is violating all international norms and conventions which were approved by the United Nations.
He said, “we appeal to the Syrian government, Russian government, and the international community to stand by our people in northern Syria and to prevent provocative and hostile practices against our people.”
“Turkey, with its heinous acts, makes itself the enemy of all Syrian communities. We consider the cutoff of the people’s water as an underestimation of them, because what hurts our people of Hasakah hurts our people of Suwayda,” he added.
Two weeks ago, Turkish forces stopped operating Aluok Water Station in the countryside of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), cutting off the water from the city of Hasakah and its countryside for the eighth time since they took control of the Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad (Gre-Spi) regions late last year.
Alouk Water Station is the main source of water for about 460,000 in the cities of Hasakah and Tel Tamr as well as Hol and Arisha camps, according to the United Nations, while the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and local organizations estimate the number of affected people at one million.
