Right demands
Ghassan al-Yousef, the co-chair of Deir ez-Zor Council, told North Press that large protests took place in Deir ez-Zor goverorate by invitations of activists from 7 villages and areas east of the Euphrates, which are controlled by the Russian-backed Syrian government forces.
“The protesters raised slogans calling on the Global Coalition and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to return these displaced people to their areas”, al-Yousef said, noting that there are more than 200,000 displaced people from the villages of al-Jeneina, al-Husayniyah, al-Salihiyah, Hatlah, Tabiyeh, Khasham and Maratt.
He stressed that “the protesters were peacefully expressing their demands within Deir ez-Zor, where they appealed to the international community, the SDF and the Autonomous Administration, to find a solution for their situation, through which they have been living since the SDF had liberated areas in the east of the Euphrates from ISIS militants”.
The co-chair of Deir ez-Zor Council Ghassan al-Yousef, explained that they are “as a political department” calling for a just solution to the Syrian issue through the implementation of the UN resolution No. 2254, and a Syrian-Syrian dialogue aimed at solving all citizens’ issues, and meeting their demands in Deir ez-Zor and in all other Syrian regions”.
He added that the protests carried “right demands” for the people of Deir ez-Zor and other areas, to return to their areas from which they were displaced .
Al-Yusuf expressed his support for the “right of peaceful demonstrations” and considered it “a legitimate right guaranteed by all laws”, he added, “we, as a political and civil administration of the governorate of Deir ez-Zor, neither prevent these demonstrations, nor we did participate in them, as we had nothing with its organizing”.
Moreover, he said that civilian activists and tribal leaders, “have organized these protest at al-Salihiyah crossing point, which is the point of separation between the SDF controlled areas and the areas held by the Syrian government forces, where these protests took place in large numbers and raised several slogans demanding their return to their homes and villages,” he said.
He added that the administration of the Euphrates region calls on the Syrian government, “for a peaceful and political dialogue aimed at resolving the Syrian issue in a fair way, and the return of IDPs to their areas”.
Al-Yousef revealed that they aim “at dialogue and civil peace, and to resolve all issues in a fair way that allows all Syrians to practice a dignified and free life in a just and free manner”.
Demonstrators “infiltrators”
While the Syrian member of parliament Muhannad al-Haj Ali said there is nothing called “US-Russian consensus on sharing territories in Syria”.
“The Russian Federation is assisting Syria in its war against terror, and there is a strategic decision by the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to cleanse the entire Syrian territories of any invader, whether it’s American, Turkish, terrorist, French or British!”
He stressed that “the priority of the Syrian government after the governorate of Idlib is al-Jazira region”, adding that “the Syrian government forces will be in the east of the Euphrates soon”.
As he called the protesters in Deir ez-Zor as: “Agents who sold themselves to the United States of America”, while accusing them of “trying to protest against the Syrian government, these are a few of whom the United States is trying to invest and buy to impose a divisive reality on the country”.
He added that the Kurds in the east of the Euphrates are Syrian citizens, and the Syrian government supports them, claiming that there is “constant communication with them”, and that Washington “will not be able to achieve its goal, no matter how many people in that region it has bought”.
