In a statement on Thursday, the Syrian People's Assembly (Parliament) has described the Armenian Genocide in the era of the Ottoman State in 1915, as a "Black Mark" in the human history.

"As we are living a Turkish aggression based on the hateful, racist Ottoman thought, we sincerely remember with pain and grief, the heinous crimes committed by Erdogan's ancestors against the friendly Armenian people,” the statement read.

That period witnessed widespread massacres carried out against the Armenians in the regions of eastern Anatolia, which lie within the borders of the modern Turkish state, as the Armenian historical documents accuse the Ottoman Turks of committing massacres against the Armenians, Assyrians, Syriacs and the Chaldeans, known as "Seyfo Genocide.”

The statement of the Syrian Parliament said: "The extermination of more than a million and a half million Armenians isn't just a historical accident, it is a black mark in the history of humanity.”

The statement comes amid increasing tension between the Syrian and Turkish sides against the backdrop of the recent advancement of the Syrian government forces at the expense of the Turkish-backed armed groups in the governorates of Aleppo and Idlib in north-west of Syria.
