Joint Russian-Turkish patrol conducted near Syria’s town of Kobani

KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – Joint Russian-Turkish patrol was conducted in the western countryside of Syrian predominantly Kurdish northern town of Kobani, local sources said on Thursday.

The patrol contained eight Russian and Turkish military vehicles, accompanied by two Russian helicopters, started from Ashma village, 20 kilometers west of Kobani, and roamed six villages to the checkpoint of the Internal Security Forces(Asayish) near the Izaa area west of the town of Kobani.

The patrol went back to the starting point in the village of Ashma taking the same road again, while Turkish military vehicles entered the gate near the village of Ashma. Meanwhile,  the Russian military vehicles returned to their point in the Izaa area.

Last week , the Russian Military Police conducted the 20th  joint patrol with Turkey in the eastern countryside of Kobani, two days after Russian soldiers were injured in a landmine explosion which targeted a Russian armored vehicle near the border gate to the Marj Ismail village east of Kobani.

The mine explosion burned about 50 hectares of fields in the surrounding area, in addition to injuring a number of Russian soldiers.
