SDF arrests 4 ISIS sleeper agents in northeastern Syria

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Coordination and military operation center announced on Wednesday that as part of a stabilization operation, 4 members of ISIS sleeper cells were captured in the Bosira Area, east of Deir ez-Zor, during a new campaign carried out by special units of the Kurdish-led SDF with US-led Global Coalition air forces support. Weapons and technical equipment were found and confiscated.

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced the arrest of a member of an ISIS sleeper agent to the east of Deir ez-Zor in a security operation carried out with the support of US-led Global Coalition air forces.

A military source from the SDF told North Press that the special units of the SDF carried out, in the early morning hours of Wednesday and with air support from the Global Coalition, a security operation that targeted ISIS sleeper cells in the Bosira area in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

The military source added that the operation resulted in the arrest of four members of an ISIS sleeper cell, and weapons and technical equipment were found with them.

The Global Coalition pledged to continue supporting the SDF in the framework of the war against the Islamic State, and to provide economic and services support in northeastern Syria.

In December 2018, US President Donald Trump announced a decision to withdraw the roughly two thousand U.S. troops remaining in Syria. On January 16, 2019, an attack in Manbij claimed by the Islamic State killed at least nineteen people, including four Americans. Prior to that attack, only two Americans had been killed in action in Syria since the US-led campaign began. The US-led Global Coalition continues to carry out military strikes against the Islamic State and provides support to the SDF and Internal Security Forces (Asayish).
