Casualties, injuries in Russian airstrike in Syria’s Bab
BAB, Syria (North Press) – Russian warplanes targeted areas in the city of Bab in the eastern countryside of Aleppo on Wednesday, killing more than 10 people.
Three Russian rockets targeted a building near Iman Mosque, west of Bab city in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, killing one and wounding ten, including a family with four children.
In conjunction with the aerial bombardment, sirens were heard emanating from the Turkish forces in the vicinity.
The city of Bab was bombed by Russian warplanes in early February, when a mosque near the city’s al-Hall Market was targeted, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
On Tuesday, Russian warplanes targeted several locations in the villages of Barah, Sargila, and other areas in the villages of Zawiya Mountain in the southern countryside of Idlib.
It also shelled the hills of al-Kabinah and Douir al-Akrad in the northern countryside of Latakia, near the western countryside of Idlib, in response to a VBIED, which wounded three Russian soldiers and destroyed four armored vehicles, targeting a Russian-Turkish military patrol in the southern countryside of Idlib.
Bab is a strategic city in northern Syria. Captured by ISIS in 2013, it has been experiencing intense fighting since 2016.
As a result of Operation Euphrates Shield in August 2016 – March 2017 and Operation Olive Branch in March 2018, which lasted 64 days, the Turkish Armed Forces and its affiliated opposition groups managed to take over the cities of Jarablus, Bab, Azaz, and Afrin. Since this time, Turkish-backed opposition groups in these areas have been accused of multiple violations against the local population, from theft and looting to rape, kidnapping, and murder.
