The administration of the Semalka border crossing with the Kurdistan Region near the town of Derik, northeastern Syria, announced that it will resume commercial traffic at the crossing today, Monday.
On Sunday, Sherzad Osman, the official at Semalka border crossing said to North Press that they will resume the commercial traffic at the crossing starting from Monday, after maintaining the bridge of the Autonomous Administration, after being out of service due to the rainfalls.
Osman pointed out that after the two bridges of the crossing were out of service due to the heavy rainfalls and high-water levels of the Tigris River, the commercial traffic was then diverted to the al-Waleed crossing.
Osman said that the movement at the crossing will resume only for trading, while the suspension of the passengers’ movement will continue as a precautionary measure to counter the coronavirus.
According to Osman, maintenance works are still ongoing on the bridge related to the Kurdistan Region.
Semalka crossing was out of service on March 18, as a result of the high-water level of the Tigris River due to the heavy rains.
