Russian aid to Damascus to counter coronavirus

Yesterday, Friday, the Syrian Ministry of Health received special medical assistance in response to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

A Russian plane carrying medical aid arrived at Damascus International Airport to give the Syrian Ministry of Health medical assistance, which included 50 ventilators, about 10,000 devices to test coronavirus, 1,000 pieces of multi-use virus protective clothing (PPE), and 1000 other single-use PPE pieces.

The aid comes within the framework of supporting the capabilities of the health sector in the Syrian government to confront the virus, especially because the number of recorded cases rose to 38 in Damascus after the Ministry of Health announced recording four new infections of coronavirus on Friday evening.

According to the Syrian Ministry of Health, the second batch of aid is expected to arrive on April 20th, and will include 150 ventilators.

A shipment carrying Chinese medical aid to Syria arrived at Damascus International Airport on April 15th, containing 50 ventilators, about 10,000 devices to test for coronavirus, 1,000 multi-use PPE, and 1,000 single-use PPE, according to the Syrian Ministry of Health.
