“They are in their land and we are in ours, what brought them to us?” Fatima al-Hasan, a hundred years old woman wondered while sitting in front of her house, where the latest filled trenches were a few hundred meters away.
With eyes that have witnessed events of a hundred years, Fatima, who lives in the village of Tal Abyad al-Sharqi, from which the last batch of People’s Protection Units (YPG) withdrew yesterday, in compliance with the security mechanism agreement, as she expressed what is happening around her, as a thing that she never seen before.
“Syria is Syria and Turkey is Turkey”, said the grandmother, who was confused with maps and borders, and was not aware of the agreement, that she is fearful of not finding a shady place protecting her from the scorching sun of the village, saying: “Let it be upon Allah, my son .. upon Allah”.
A joint patrol between the United States forces and Tal Abyad Military Council had supervised the withdrawal of YPG from that area yesterday, after filling their trenches, which they had previously prepared following the Turkish threats to invade the regions of northeastern Syria, at three bordering points, east of Tal Abyad.
The United States, Turkey and the SDF have agreed on implementing the security mechanism agreement, which indicated the withdrawal of YPG from bordering areas with Turkey, according to statements by Ambassador James Jeffrey the U.S. special envoy to Syria.
The Spokesman of the Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF—OIR) Col. Myles B. Caggins said in mid-September that the Global Coalition finds itself committed to the success of the security mechanism for a strong partnership with the SDF, while praising the response of the local military councils, on the sidelines of a meeting on the same day with the Military Council of the city of Tal Abyad.
