The city of al-Shaddadi, south of Hasakah, has been through a shortage of bread over the past four months, following the fuel crisis in the region.
There are two bakeries that operate in the city, one of which is run by al-Shaddadi Civil Council, and the other is a public bakery run by the council along with the Syrian government.
The “cooperative” bakery which was run by the civil council four months ago, was recently closed because it was not supplied with flour, the matter that led to the creation of bread crisis in the city.
Moreover, the bread shortage caused large crowds in front of the city’s only bakery, as dozens of people stand in line on a daily basis to get some bread.
Um Muhammad an old woman from al- Shaddadi said that she complained to the administration of not getting bread for a long time, accusing the bakeries’ officials of selling bread at a price of 250 SYP in markets.
While Saleh al-Naser said: “The reason behind the crisis is that the bakeries are not supplied with flour. I hope that the concerned authorities will resolve the crisis as soon as possible”.
For his part, Yassin al-Shaher, the manager of the cooperative bakery told North-Press that the production capacity of the bakery is 10 tons of flour per day, while the allocated amount is only two tons, “which does not meet the needs of people of the city”.
Al-Shaher demanded the Autonomous Administration in Hasakah to increase the amount of provided flour for the bakery to solve this crisis.
It is noteworthy that the city of Kobani has also suffered the poor quality of bread, where the bakery’s management said that the main reason was the poor quality of flour.
