Tribal figures and elders of Manbij reject Turkey s threats to invade northern Syria

Manbij tribal figures and elders have condemned Turkey’s threats to invade their city and areas of northern and eastern Syria, especially after the announcement of a US-Turkish agreement on establ Shalash ishing a joint military operations room regarding the safe zone and the return of Syrian refugees to their country.

Ibrahim Shilash, the Sheikh of “Bani Said” tribes in Manbij, told North-Press that they are against the Turkish interference in any inch of Syrian territories, whether in Azaz, Afrin or any other area, as he said: “We will not allow them to intervene in northern and eastern Syria, all the residents of the region stand together with the SDF.”

Shilash stressed: “who wants refugees to return to their country, this region is safe, and what Turkey offers is not a zone of peace or safety, but wants to occupy Syrian territories.”

While Farouk Diab al-Mashi, al-Bubna tribe figure in Manbij, said that the Turkish threats have recently increased to invade Manbij, “since the city got rid of the darkness of ISIS, the Turkish government did act nothing at that time.”

Al-Mashi stressed that people of Manbij are the ones who run their city, and involved in the service and security institutions to protect the city under the Autonomous Administration. 

Al-Mashi also wandered that the Turkish president described the areas of Deir ez-Zor as occupied territories, while he did not mention them when they were under the control of the Islamic State group (ISIS).
