The Health Authority in the Euphrates Region (an administrative division comprising Kobani and Gre Spi/Tal Abyad) has been working on the construction of a special hospital for children in the city of Kobani, north of Syria, which is expected to be completed next September.

The co-chair of the Health Authority in the Euphrates region, Ahmad Mahmoud, told North-Press that the Health Authority decided to build a special hospital for children because of the pressure on Kobani Hospital, formerly known as Vienna Hospital.

He pointed out that the new hospital consists of two buildings which include about fourteen rooms, noting that it will provide emergency and therapeutic services for children, as well as accommodation for free.

Mr. Mahmoud said that five pediatricians will supervise the provision of therapeutic services, as well as a number of doctors who will supervise the internal and general cases, adding that the hospital will include central oxygen devices, 10 baby incubators and ventilators of the central care rooms.

Most of the children in Kobani who need intensive care are usually transferred to the hospitals in the city of Manbij, due to the lack of intensive care rooms in Kobani hospitals.

The hospital will receive about 100 cases on a daily basis after the completion of the construction process, according to the co-chair of the Health Authority.

There are three hospitals in Kobani, one belongs to the private sector, the second is the obstetrical hospital that only receives birth cases, while the third is the Kobani General Hospital, in addition to the health center which is operated by the Kurdish Red Crescent Organization, and the Meshtanour Health Center operated by the Health Authority.

Kobani General Hospital receives about 6,000 medical cases per month, of which 2,000 are children.
