600 children have finished their educational program about alphabetization in several centers of humanitarian organizations in Raqqa on Sunday.

New Horizons Organization held a graduation party for 260 children after 6 months of an educational course in its center.

During the rule of Islamic State on their city, children of Raqqa experienced ideas that affected their mentality and they were cut off schools as a result of the battle between ISIS and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) at that time.

“Those graduated children experienced an alphabetization program level 4, they received education according to Autonomous Administration’s curricula that include an intensive educational program in order to capture what they missed during the recent years,” Muhammad Al-Mousa, the manager of New Horizons Organization told North-Press.

Adding that among the graduated, there is also a group of children with special needs who received their education in order to integrate them within society.

For his part, Issa Al-Sheikh, a representative in the Bureau of Special Needs in Raqqa Civil Council, said in his speech in the graduation party that “These courses are a necessity to erase the ideas of the war that have been suspended in the minds of children.”

He added that those children had learned values, morals and loving each other along with educational programs such as reading and calculating.

The party included plays inspired from educational programs for illiterate children, those who were in charge of the party, awarded honorary certificates for the superiors in alphabetization course with the presence of a number of the people of Al-Jezra neighborhood. Families of the children in their part demanded the continuation of such courses in order to develop public education in their region.

In a related context, both NGOs “Future Makers Team and Together for al-Jarniyah” in the town of al-Jarniyah, west countryside of Raqqa, have finished the same educational program while the number of graduates reached 340 children.

Since the control of the multi-ethnic Syrian Democratic Forces over the governorate of Al-Raqqa in 2017, many humanitarian organizations have started working on alphabetization courses and psychological support with the coordination of the Committee of Education in Raqqa Civil Council, these organizations during their educational programs, target the age group that exceeded the definite age to enroll the schools in a step to capture the students what they had missed during years of war.
