At a cost to $500,000, the signing of a contract for the establishment of a football stadium in Kobani.

About 1200 young men from different ages practice football as a hobby in 15 registered teams in Sport’s Union in the city of Kobani which lacks sports facilities.

Youth and Sports Board with the Local Administrative and Municipalities Boards in Al-Furat territory (administrative division includes Kobani/Ein Al-Arab, Tal Abyad, and Ein Issa) had signed yesterday a contract for establishing a football stadium in Kobani city at an estimated cost of $500,000.

Bozan Barkal, the co-chair of Youth and Sport Board in the territory told “North Press”: that the stadium will be established upon three stages in 11 months, pointing out that the work on the project will start on the 10th of June 2019.

For several years, sportsmen have been demanding to establish a stadium for practicing their hobbies, where the city lacks regular stadiums, the matter that obliged sportsmen to play their matches on sandy grounds in which it led to serious injuries most of the times.

Barkal stated that the first stage of the project includes leveling stadium ground, fencing it with a four-meter-height fence and establishing stands for 1500 to 2000 people as well as completely lighting the stadium.

The stadium will be established by The Local Administrative and Municipalities Board in Al-Furat territory and under the supervision of The Youth and Sports Board, according to the international standards of football stadiums, with a 105m length, and a 70m width, and it will be established on the area of the old playground in New Kobani district.

By the end of 2018, The Youth and Sports Board had established a hexagonal stadium (6 players in each team) at the headquarter of The Board with a 52m length, and a 32m width at a cost of $60.000, while a Norwegian sports association presented grass for the stadium as a gift for Kobani sportsmen that will be ready by the end of June.

Regular stadiums can be seen in cities like Minbij, Raqqa, Altabqa, Tal-Abyad and other cities in Al-Jazira territory where sportsmen practice their hobbies.
