A political analyst on the Iraqi affairs said that there was no expectation of a U.S. response to Iran in this way, and that the official Iraqi reactions were only for media, warning that the future of the region may be linked to a tweet from the U.S. President. Hiwa Osman confirmed to North-Press that the recent developments that took place in the region starting with the attack on the U.S. embassy in Iraq and the assassination of the commander of the Iranian Quds Force, Gen. Qasem Soleimani, which is the most important event came as a surprise to the world.
Hiwa Osman attributed the reasons for this surprise to the fact that no one expected the United States to take such direct action against an important Iranian leader, but at the same time there were significant repercussions for this action. He explained that the first issues that we have seen are the decision of the Shiite bloc in the Iraqi parliament to withdraw the troops, or end the strategic agreement between Iraq and the United States, and demand the Shiite bloc in the Iraqi parliament to completely end the U.S. presence in Iraq.
Mr. Osman also described the decision to withdraw the U.S. troops as "it puts mostly for media and it is an emotional reaction to the United States, on one hand, and on the other hand, it is currently unenforceable, stressing that the current parliament is doubted about its legitimacy in terms of morale.
He also recalled that a month ago, the parliament issued a decision to activate a new election law and dissolve the election commission, which brought this parliament, and he also affirmed his point of view by saying that “the current primary and sole task of the parliament is to name the country's prime minister, who will be involved in arranging early elections; and after that there will be a new parliament and a new government then we have to see if the new parliament will continue with the decision taken by the Shiite bloc in the parliament.”
"On the other hand, it should be monitored whether the next government is ready to implement the decision of this parliament?!" he added.
He said that the issues are still pending with regard to the situation in Kurdistan Region to describe it as "caught between two fires", the first of which is the fire of its neighbor, Iran, which has previously proved that it can harm the region by land, and the second is the fire of the United States, which considers that Kurdistan Region as its ally, and KRG considers that Washington as its ally and the protector of the situation. He stressed that what happened in Rojava (northern Syrian) has an impact on the region in terms of trusting the United States, where everything is in the wind.”
Osman went on to say that the whole situation is suspended by a tweet from the U.S. President Donald Trump, commenting: "Trump may wake up the next day and say that he will withdraw his troops from the Arab regions in Iraq and remain in KRG, as we saw in Rojava-Kurdistan (northern Syria), the U.S. presence may remain in the rich areas with oil, like Kirkuk and others, so we have to look and wait for the upcoming days.”
