Counter-terrorism Units (HAT) of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have
arrested Islamic State’s sleeper cell members, who had earlier conducted an
assassination operation against Marwan al-Fateih, the co-chair of Deir ez-Zor
Legislative Council.

The head of SDF media office, Mustafa Bali told North-Press, that the
cyber hunt team within Counter-Terrorism Units of the SDF, has tracked the
incoming call numbers received by Marwan al-Fateih, the co-chair of the
Legislative Council in Deir ez-Zor, prior to his assassination.

Mr. Bali explained that this process was conducted accurately and
continued for four consecutive months, until the place of the cell was located,
as 3 members of the terrorist cell were arrested, as he said.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) published a statement on
Saturday, indicating that after intense cyber and field tracking operations
carried out by their units, between the 3rd and 4th of September,
they managed to arrest three militants of ISIS sleeper cell in the the area of Abu
Khashab, in Deir ez-Zor countryside.

Moreover, SDF noted that this sleeper cell is responsible for the assassination
of the co-chair of the Legislative Council in Deir ez-Zor, Marwan al-Fateih, in
December 29, 2018.

“A large amount of ammunition, weapons and documents belonging to
the Islamic State group were seized”, the statement read.

On the 29th of December 2018, unidentified gunmen opened fire
at Marwan al-Fateh, as he was returning home from the city of Hasakah.

Al-Fateih was one of the founders of the Deir ez-Zor Civil Council, and was
appointed in early 2018 as the co-chairman of the Legislative Council of Deir
ez-Zor.
