Turkish analyst: Ankara will impose its view at the summit, no possibility to overcome the disputes
Preparations are underway on Monday for a tripartite summit in the Turkish capital Ankara, between the presidents of Russia, Iran and Turkey.
The summit of the three leaders, Vladimir Putin, Hassan Rouhani and Recep Erdogan, will focus on the Syrian situation and bilateral and trilateral relations between the leaders expected to meet today.
In this regard, Turkish analyst Firas Rizvanoglu told North-Press that Turkey would impose its view at Ankara meeting, but the question remains whether Russia will accept this opinion, reducing the possibility of overcoming the disputes of the past.
Adding that there’s no solution in Syria but the political one, while reduced the possibility of any results regarding the current developments in northwestern Syria and the de-escalation zones. Moreover, he said that a problem is likely to rise if Turkey does not impose its opinion.
According to Rizvanoglu, Ankara summit will be a continuation of the previous agreements, with Turkey’s formulating its final conditions in northern Syria, the Constitutional Commission, reconstruction issues, the opposition issue and the east of Euphrates issue.
Tariq al-Ahmad, a member of the Central Political Office of the Syrian Social Nationalist Party, believes that Ankara meeting of the three guarantors of Astana Agreement, is an important meeting to overcome former disagreements and make progress on the Astana course.
The progress, he said, is made in implementing what have been agreed at all Astana meetings, on the regard of “liberating Idlib from terrorists” under Putin-Erdogan agreement, and settling the situation with “Turkey’s armed groups which are categorized as moderate for Turkey and accept a settlement for us”.
Al-Ahmad expected that the political and military issues would run in parallel, explaining that the general situation “no longer bears further delay”, neither in Idlib nor in Turkey, as well as Russia’s desire to resolve these outstanding issues to move towards the next step.
Furthermore, he stressed that engaging in the political process entails laying down arms and cannot be launched with “the presence of terrorism”. He pointed out that opening the international road of Damascus-Aleppo is vitally important step, in addition to the opening of Aleppo airport and achieving progress regarding civilian issues, as well as expelling armed groups in the areas surrounding the airport, with the possibility of opening Latakia-Aleppo road.
Al-Ahmad said that the east of the Euphrates region should have a consensus among the three guarantors of the region, as he expected a common attitude, while he accused Washington of “blatantly” dealing with the solution in Syria.
